KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – 54 properties were sold at the Kaufman County tax resale auction on Thursday night, August 21, 2014, announced Kaufman County Tax Assessor-Collector Tonya Ratcliff during the Kaufman County Commissioners' Court meeting on Tuesday morning.

In total, the county placed 75 properties on the auction block and sold 54 properties for just under $180,000. Starting bids ranged from $75 to $19,913 which was a quarter of the properties appraised value. The lowest property at the auction sold for $82 and the highest bid property sold for $40,000.

The properties and homes on the auction block had passed their legal redemption period, according to Ratcliff. “This new auction format is working. It's getting properties back on the tax rolls quicker,” she said. Some properties have actually been in possession of the county and off the tax rolls since 1994.

The properties not sold during the auction were typically those which were land locked or two small to build on in accordance with city or county ordinances. Prior to the auction, the firm representing the county to hold the auction placed signs at each of the properties to notify neighbors and potential buyers.

52 of the total properties listed were located in the Terrell Independent School District (ISD), nine were in Kaufman ISD, seven were in Wills Point ISD, six were in Forney ISD, and one was in Crandall ISD.
