KAUFMAN, Texas — A fire completely destroyed a Kaufman home early Thursday morning, July 2, 2015.
At 2:45 a.m., the Kaufman Fire Department was dispatched to a two-story, wood-structure home in the 300 block of North Jefferson Street in Kaufman, Texas.
Firefighters reported the home was fully engulfed in flames at the time of their arrival which prompted a call for mutual aid from the Scurry Volunteer Fire Department and the Crandall Fire Department.
Portions of the two-story structure collapsed early into the fire. The Kaufman Fire Department utilized a ladder truck to fight the fire from above.
The homeowner, who was home at the time of the fire, woke up and was able to safely evacuate the home. The homeowner’s dog is unaccounted for following the fire.
The fire is being investigated as an accidental fire which originated in a living area at the northwestern corner of the home, according to Kaufman Fire Department Fire Marshal Kyle McAfee.
The fire remains under investigation.
