Man killed in Saturday morning rollover crash on FM 148

KEMP, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal rollover accident which occurred earlier today on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 in the Kemp, Texas, area.

KEMP, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal rollover accident which occurred earlier today on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 in the Kemp, Texas, area.

At 9:25 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015, the accident was reported on FM 148 just east of County Road 4057, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lonny Haschel. The 67-year-old man, who has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin, was traveling eastbound on FM 148 when his rear axle broke on the left side of the vehicle, according to Haschel.

The man lost control of the truck and drove into the ditch where the truck overturned. The man was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, Haschel said.

The man was transported by a CareFlite medical helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, with serious trauma and in critical condition. He later died at the hospital, according to Haschel.

FM 148 was briefly closed while the man was escorted by EMS to a nearby field to be loaded into the helicopter for transport.

The Kemp Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating.
