KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A man survived a violent rollover accident on Monday night after being ejected while his vehicle was airborne.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers believe alcohol and speed played a role in the accident which occurred on Farm-to-Market (FM) 2578 approximately two miles south of Terrell, Texas, just before 8 p.m. on Monday night, November 17, 2014.
The man was traveling southbound on FM 2578 when he lost control of his vehicle and served into the northbound lanes, into a ditch, struck a culvert, and went airborne. The man’s vehicle traveled approximately 70 feet in the air before it struck the ground and eventually landed on its roof.
The man was ejected from the vehicle while it was airborne and landed in the roadway midway between the launch point and where the vehicle landed. He was taken by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to an area hospital.
The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, an East Texas Medical Center ambulance, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the accident. A CareFlite helicopter placed on standby was later disregarded.
FM 2578 was briefly closed while emergency personnel were on scene.
