FORNEY, Texas — More than 3,000 people were without power for approximately an hour in Forney on Friday night, according to Oncor’s website, and approximately 780 Oncor customers continue to be effected by the outage.
Included in the outage was Forney Independent School District’s (ISD) City Bank Stadium which is hosting the District 12-5A matchup between North Forney High School and West Mesquite High School.
The outage also caused approximately seven people to become trapped inside of an elevator at City Bank Stadium which serves as access to the coaches and press boxes. Of the people in the elevator, approximately five to six were students and two were faculty members, according to Forney ISD spokesperson Larry Coker.
The Forney Fire Department responded to the stadium and was able to open the elevator doors, which was on the ground level, and freed the individuals.
Power was restored to a majority of those effected by approximately 8:35 p.m. and both teams took the field to warm-up and continue the game. Teams will break for halftime but a halftime show is not scheduled.
As of 9 p.m., the outage continues for approximately 780 Oncor customers, according to their website which estimates a restoration at 11:30 p.m.
