FORNEY, Texas — Nearly 300,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed from the Forney Lift Station on Sunday, February 8, 2015, according to a Monday release from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD).
The 292,600 gallon overflow occurred at a manhole near the Forney Lift Station due to a failure at the station. “The overflow appears to be contained within Mustang Branch,” states the release.
“NTMWD personnel swiftly responded to the incident and have been onsite for environmental assessments, have initiated clean-up activities, and are initiating repairs,” according to NTMWD.
The NTMWD is urging individuals with private drinking water supply wells to distill or boil their water and have their well water tested and disinfected prior to discontinuing distillation of boiling. If boiled, water should be boiled at a rolling boil for at least one minute for personal uses.
Drinking water from the City of Forney remains safe to drink, according to Forney’s Public Works Director Chris Metz. Market Water Supply Corporation purchases their water from the City of Forney.
“The public should avoid contact with waste water material, soil, or water in the area potentially affected by the spill,” according to the NTMWD. “If the public comes into contact with waste water material, soil, or water potentially affected by the spill, they should bathe and wash clothes thoroughly as soon as possible.”
“Although we have experienced an overflow of domestic wastewater, service to the NTMWD Forney Lift Station has been restored and NTMWD personnel are moving swiftly for clean-up activities,” stated NTMWD Executive Director Tom Kula. “The environmental area near the spill site and Mustang Branch will be appropriately monitored. The public drinking water continues to receive treatment at the NTMWD’s water treatment facilities and is safe for consumption and use.”
