KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Four new members were sworn in as Lone Star CASA advocates by Rockwall County 382nd District Court Judge Brett Hall in late February and now the organization is offering an information session in Forney for individuals who would like to become an advocate for abused and neglected children in Kaufman and Rockwall counties.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Four new members were sworn in as Lone Star CASA advocates by Rockwall County 382nd District Court Judge Brett Hall in late February and now the organization is offering an information session in Forney for individuals who would like to become an advocate for abused and neglected children in Kaufman and Rockwall counties.
Lone Star CASA is an organization of court appointed volunteers with special training who help place abused and neglected children. The volunteers are appointed by a district judge to represent the best interest of abused and neglected children in court.
“Volunteer advocates independently investigate the child’s situation and make recommendations to Rockwall and Kaufman County District Court Judges as to what permanent placement would be best for that particular child,” according to Lone Star CASA's website.
The four new advocates sworn in, and pictured above, were Steve Lane, Kay Uhlig, Kendall Pierce, and Sherry Walker.
The next information session will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church located at 12433 Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 in Forney, Texas, at 6:30 p.m.
The sessions will give an overall view of the program, what's expected of the volunteers, and should last approximately 30 minutes with time for questions. Training for interested candidates is likely to begin in May 2015.
Volunteers will complete 30 hours of new volunteer training, review case records, research information, prepare court reports, make recommendations to the court, advocate in court, and complete 12 hours of training per year.
