KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A new Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Kaufman County in anticipation of a second winter weather event late Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from midnight Tuesday, February 24, 2015, through noon on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
“Although there has been some improvement in road conditions this afternoon, slush and residual moisture on roadways will begin refreezing this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas. “In addition, patchy freezing drizzle is expected through the evening and it will only worsen driving conditions.”
The precipitation overnight Tuesday is expected to be snow with accumulations between one and three inches with locally higher amounts.
Kaufman County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie said there was “considerable uncertainty” with the winter storms track and potential areas for snow.
“The exact track and strength of the system will dictate which areas receive accumulating snows and which areas receive little or no snow,” stated Howie. “Later forecasts will be able to refine the locations that have the greatest potential for accumulating snow.”
The main impacts include hazardous travel situations due to snow, ice, and sleet accumulations.
“Most areas of additional precipitation across north and central Texas through tonight will be light, but the existing icy roadways in some areas will persist into Tuesday morning,” stated Howie.
“Motorists are urged to exercise caution,” stated the National Weather Service. “Allow plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you. Avoid making sharp turns or braking suddenly.”
