A residential structure fire was reported in the 1100 block of South Francis Street in Terrell, Texas, at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke from a single-story brick residential structure.
Firefighters from the Terrell Fire Department and Terrell Volunteer Fire Department quickly responded and knocked down the fire which damaged portions of the south side of the home. The remainder of the home sustained smoke and water damage.
The fire originated at a window air conditioning unit in a back bedroom, according to Terrell Fire Department Fire Marshal Captain Tom Cooper. The fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported. Nine people from the home, three adults and six children, were displaced after the fire, according to Cooper. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family.
