FORNEY, Texas — No injuries were reported after two separate accidents on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2015, in a troubled section of U.S. Highway 80 in Forney.
Kaufman County to Dallas County commuters on U.S. Highway 80 are all too familiar with the troubled section of highway near Farm-to-Market (FM) 460. The lack in frontage roads over the East Fork Trinity River only compounds the issue when the accidents occur near the county line — offering no reprieve from the traffic congestion.
The first accident was reported at approximately 7:15 a.m. on westbound U.S. Highway 80 just west of FM 460. Although the accident was minor and no injuries were reported, delays were reported in the area.
The second accident occurred on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 just east of FM 460. An eastbound traveling vehicle veered off the right shoulder of the highway and down an embankment. No injuries were reported in this accident but the vehicle sustained major damage and was towed from the scene.
Funding was made available by voters when, in November 2013, they approved a $56 million Kaufman County Transportation Bond which includes funding to redesign and construct new ramps along the south frontage road between FM 460 and Pinson Road. This project is expected to go out for bid in March 2016, according to Texas Department of Transportation records.
