FORNEY, Texas – The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) voted Thursday to ease water restrictions in an effort to maintain water quality and chlorine levels in treated water to ensure it is safe to drink.
The NTMWD is calling its member cities and customers to allow landscape watering once a week with sprinklers or irrigation systems through the end of October 2014. “During the summer of 2014, NTMWD consumers have reduced their water usage so well that maintaining chlorine residuals has been compounded by the decreased demands,” states a release from the NTMWD.
Weekly watering with sprinkler or irrigation systems will improve circulation and assist in maintaining the required chlorine residuals required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Member cities and customers might also flush their systems of water with decreased chlorine residuals by flushing hydrants.
“While water quality remains the top priority, water conservation and the wise use of water is still critical to maintain our current available supplies until the drought eases,” states the release. “Lavon Lake is currently at elevation 480.27’ and the once-per- week watering allowance should only decrease Lavon Lake’s elevation by less than 2 feet and still not require initiation of Stage 4.”
City of Forney's modified Stage 3 water restrictions will ease to follow the recommendation by the NTMWD, however, customers will still be required to follow the odd/even address watering schedule which will be published on the City of Forney's website. The new watering schedules will begin September 1, 2014.
Watering remains prohibited between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. If your address ends in an even number, you are permitted to water once per week on Mondays. If your address ends in an odd number, you are permitted to water once per week on Tuesdays. Schools, parks, athletic facilities, medians, places of worship, right-of-ways, and designated open spaces are permitted to water once per week on Wednesdays.
