KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Nucor Building Systems recently donated nearly $3,000 to the Kaufman County Fire Chiefs’ and Firefighters’ Association (KCFCFA).
Nucor Building Systems raised the funds, $2,829.51, through the company’s “Cooking for a Cause” BBQ competition at the annual Flight of our Fathers Fly-in at the Terrell Municipal Airport in September.
The company has been holding the cooking competition for the past five years in conjunction with the annual fly-in. Jason Lengacher, the environmental coordinator for Nucor Building Systems and the assistant chief at the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department, presented the check to Randy Richards, the association’s treasurer, on October 5, 2015.
Elmo Volunteer Fire Department Chief Randy Brumbelow, also Nucor’s shipping supervisor, and competed in the cooking competition. Brumbelow and contestant Kathy Leatherwood donated their winnings back to the charitable cause, but held tightly to their trophies, according to Richards.
