KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — An overturned 18-wheeler has forced the closure of westbound Interstate 20 on Monday morning.

The crash was reported at approximately 8:29 a.m. on westbound Interstate 20 near mile marker 512 and the Kaufman-Van Zandt County line, Elmo Fire Department Chief Randy Brumbelow tells inForney.com.

Diesel fuel spilled from the truck-tractor which has prompted a HAZMAT dispatch and cleanup.

As of 11:13 a.m., the highway was expected to remain closed for approximately another hour while crews continue the cleanup process.

A secondary crash was reported in the traffic backup in Van Zandt County.

Traffic is backed up approximately eight miles to County Road 3412.
