TALTY, Texas – The Crandall Volunteer Fire Department and the Forney Fire Department extinguished a pasture fire near the Talty Baptist Church on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 earlier today.

The fire began at approximately 3 p.m. and was slow moving at first, according to a witness. In total, approximately four acres were burned. Southward winds pushed the fire dangerously close to a structure in the pasture – fire crews ultimately prevented the fire from reaching the structure.

The fire was reportedly started by construction crews in the area using a chop saw to cut bolts from a large metal utility pole.

The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office was at the scene of the fire speaking with the construction crew. No injuries were reported.

Kaufman County was placed under a burn ban earlier this morning which will be effective for 45 days.
