TERRELL, Texas – A pedestrian was struck and killed on State Highway (SH) 205 early Saturday morning, September 13, 2014.
The Terrell Police Department is investigating the accident which occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday morning. The pedestrian, identified as Sonni Blankenbaker of Crandall, Texas, was standing on SH 205 before being struck by a northbound traveling vehicle just north of Colquitt Road.
The driver of the vehicle, a Rockwall woman, told police Blankenbaker was standing in the middle of the northbound lane of SH 205 and she was unable to avoid the collision. Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
SH 205 was closed for approximately two hours, in between County Road 236 and Colquitt Road, while authorities investigated the accident.
Blankenbaker was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Kaufman County justice of the peace. SH 205 was reopened at approximately 3:06 a.m.
The Terrell Police Department and fire department worked the accident scene which was located just south of the county line. The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control and the road closure.
The Terrell Police Department continues to investigate the accident.
