MABANK, Texas — A possible tornado has damaged several homes and injured at least one person near Cedar Creek Lake, county law enforcement and emergency management personnel tell inForney.com.
A number of law enforcement and fire departments are staged just south of U.S. Highway 175 near the Cedar Creek Country Club.
There, Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers says emergency personnel, as of 6 p.m., were conducting a secondary search of the area and is asking residents to temporarily avoid the area until the search is complete.
Beavers says at least 15 homes have been impacted — five or six of those homes sustained major damage while at least two were described as a total loss. Additionally, Beavers says some of the damage includes boards through roofs, numerous downed power lines, and downed trees.
A gas leak has been identified and isolated on Chaperral, according to Beavers.
Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie says at least one person has been reported injured, describing those injuries as minor and non-life threatening.
Howie says the National Weather Service will need to survey the damage to determine if a tornado touched down or if the damage was caused by straight line winds.
This is a developing story.
