KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Kaufman County officials say preliminary damage estimates in Kaufman County have topped $2.1 million and are expected to rise.
The estimate is a “conservative estimate” and only reflects damage to county roads, Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Steve Howie told inForney.com.
The estimate does not factor business, residential, or agriculture damage, stated Howie who's office is requesting damage estimates from Kaufman County residents, farmers, and business owners.
Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood issued a disaster declaration on May 27, 2015, in response to a nearly months-long severe weather event which resulted in severe flooding county-wide. Texas Governor Greg Abbott also issued an Emergency Disaster Proclamation for 70 Texas counties, including Kaufman County.
The Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management is requesting the following information be sent to oem@kaufmancounty.net: Name, address, contact number, email address, a brief description of the damage, an estimated cost of the damage, and a yes/no notification if you have homeowner or flood insurance.
“This information will help us to determine if we will meet the FEMA threshold for obtaining the Federal Declaration,” stated Howie. “Even if you don't need assistance, please send the information so we may include it in our report.”
