FORNEY, Texas — The rehabilitation project of the City of Forney’s North Water Tower is complete with a new paint job and will be back in several in a couple of days, according to Public Works Director Chris Metz.

The 400,000 gallon elevated tower located on Farm-to-Market (740) recently underwent a $305,645 rehabilitation which included a new paint job featuring the City of Forney’s updated logo.

The project began taking bids in October 2014 and the city council awarded Wisconsin-based Classic Protective Coatings the contract in January 2015.

The project included, among other things, painting the exterior of the tank, painting the logo, re-coating all dry and wet surfaces of the interior of the tank, replacing the tank vent, and seal welding and replacing safety climb features.

The City of Forney also bid out the historic downtown tower, which is 200,000 gallons, but the two project bids combined exceeded the $500,000 budget amount. The North Tower, being the “most critical tank within the distribution system,” according to the City of Forney, was chosen to be rehabilitated first and the South Tower will likely be discussed in the 2016 Fiscal Year budget.

The Public Works Department will conduct water sampling tests over the next couple of days before the tank is brought back into service, according to Metz.

The tower was last painted in 1997 when the tower was built. Metz projects the current paint job will last 10 to 15 years depending on climate and weather conditions.
