Residents evacuated due to large gas leak in Windmill Farms

FORNEY, Texas — Windmill Farms residents were evacuated from their homes on Friday night due to a large gas leak.

Just after 8:30 p.m., a construction crew working on a new home struck a main service line on Flint Rock Drive near its intersection with Clear Springs Drive.

Despite high winds, firefighters were forced to evacuate neighboring homes due to a build-up of gas detected.

Atmos Energy was notified of the leak and have dispatched a repair crew.

Firefighters received contact information from the affected residents and will notify them when they can return to their homes.

As of 9:43 p.m., it was expected to be at least another hour before a repair was complete.The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office and the Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management also responded to the scene.
