TERRELL, Texas — A fire on Saturday morning, December 6, 2014, destroyed a home in south Terrell.
The Terrell Fire Department received a call about the fire in the 900 block of South Catherine Street just before 7 a.m. The two adult male occupants of the home were able to evacuate safely before the fire department arrived.
The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department and Forney Fire Department were dispatched for mutual aid. The fire was quickly knocked down and Forney was disregarded while in route. Although the fire was quickly knocked down, it had already burned most of the home and entered the attic.
The fire began in a bedroom, according to Terrell Fire Marshal Tom Cooper, and was likely caused by a lit candle accidentally being knocked over by one of the occupants who was sleeping.
The Red Cross of Kaufman County is temporarily providing assistance for the occupants of the home.
