KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Scurry woman was transported to a local hospital after the vehicle she was driving was struck head-on by a runaway trailer which detached from another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Scurry woman was transported to a local hospital after the vehicle she was driving was struck head-on by a runaway trailer which detached from another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
At approximately 4:10 p.m., on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, the woman was traveling southbound on Farm-to-Market (FM) 1388 just south of Kaufman, Texas, when a trailer attached to a northbound vehicle became separated from the vehicle and drifted into the southbound lane and struck the woman head-on.
The woman was able to swerve to avoid direct impact on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The trailer veered off the road after colliding with the vehicle.
The woman was the only occupant of her vehicle and was taken by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas. She is expected to be released tonight, according to family members.
The other driver stopped. An improper tow ball size and the absence of safety chains were reportedly factors in the accident.
The Kaufman Fire Department, an East Texas Medical Center ambulance, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the accident.
