Series of wrecks causing delays on westbound Interstate 20 east of Terrell

TERRELL, Texas — A series of wrecks on westbound Interstate 20 just east of Terrell are causing major delays Thursday morning — one of which prompted a HAZMAT response.

TERRELL, Texas — A series of wrecks on westbound Interstate 20 just east of Terrell are causing major delays Thursday morning — one of which prompted a HAZMAT response.

The first wreck was reported around 8 a.m. on the westbound Interstate 20 Wilson Road exit ramp and involved an overturned 18-wheeler. No injuries were reported in this wreck.

A short time later, a two-vehicle wreck was reported on westbound Interstate 20 just east of the Wilson Road, also known as County Road 309 and 138, exit. This wreck was cleared at 9:38 a.m.

In the backup of the second wreck, two additional wrecks were reported and involved an 18-wheeler which veered off the highway near mile marker 504 and a separate two-vehicle wreck near mile marker 505.

As of 10 a.m., a heavy-duty weaker and HAZMAT crew are working to upright the initial overturned 18-wheeler and clean up a fuel spill.

The Terrell Fire Department and police department responded to the initial wreck and the Elmo Volunteer Fire Department, College Mound Volunteer Fire Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the others.
