FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department and the Forney Police Department responded to a head-on collision on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 near Broad Street on Wednesday night.

The crash was first reported at approximately 8:45 p.m. A vehicle reportedly traveling westbound on the eastbound side of the highway struck another vehicle head-on. One of the vehicles involved in the crash came to a rest on the right shoulder nearest the Broad Street exit. The other vehicle struck the center cable median approximately 40 feet west of the other vehicle.

Several witnesses and drivers stopped to assist the individuals in the accident — which impacted traffic on the westbound side of the highway.

One individual from one vehicle was taken to Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Texas, by a CareFlite ambulance. Three individuals from the second vehicle were taken to the Lake Pointe Medical Center Emergency Room in Forney, Texas.

Only two vehicles were involved in the crash, according to police. A third vehicle swerved off the right shoulder of the highway to avoid the crash and was able to drive away from the scene after being winched out of the ditch.

An original version of this story stated police reported a second crash on westbound U.S. Highway 80. It was later determined to be a Good Samaritan stopping to assist.
