KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — State Highway (SH) 243 will be closed Tuesday afternoon due to an 18-wheeler crash which resulted in the driver being flown to a Dallas-area hospital.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — State Highway (SH) 243 will be closed Tuesday afternoon due to an 18-wheeler crash which resulted in the driver being flown to a Dallas-area hospital.

The crash was reported just before 1 p.m. on SH 243 approximately 2 miles east of Kaufman, Texas, near Kaufman Lake. An 18-wheeler, traveling westbound, went off the road, veered back onto the roadway, and down into an embankment on the eastbound side where it struck a tree.

The impact entrapped the driver in the cab of the tractor. The driver was transported by CareFlite ambulance to Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman to be flown by a CareFlite medical helicopter to a Dallas-area hospital with. The driver was conscious and alert, according to firefighters.

The Kaufman Fire Department, Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, CareFlite, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash.

A heavy-duty wrecker arrived at approximately 2 p.m. Officials said the road will likely be completely closed to remove the wrecked 18-wheeler.
