Skunk tests positive for rabies in Kaufman

KAUFMAN, Texas — A skunk tested positive for rabies inside the city limits of Kaufman, the Kaufman Police Department stated in a Tuesday release.

KAUFMAN, Texas — A skunk tested positive for rabies inside the city limits of Kaufman, the Kaufman Police Department stated in a Tuesday release.

At approximately 1:25 p.m., Tuesday, the Kaufman Police Department was notified that a dead skunk recovered within the city limits had tested positive for rabies. The skunk was shipped to Austin, Texas, for the testing.

The skunk was found deceased in a Kaufman resident’s backyard on Monday. The homeowner notified police the skunk was acting aggressively towards his dog the day before and he woke up Monday morning to find his dog had killed the skunk.

The Kaufman Police Department is asking anyone who observes a skunk or any other animal acting strange or aggressive to contact the department immediately at (972) 932-3094. The department may also be contacted with any questions or concerns.

“We would like to remind all pet owners that this would be a good time to make sure all of your pets are up to date with their vaccines as well,” stated the release.
