Cold arctic air will settle in north Texas today and an upper level disturbance from the west will bring a possibility of wintery precipitation late Thursday night with lingering affects into next week.
“Temperatures will be low enough for a mix of rain and snow across roughly the northern two-thirds of the region with a rain, sleet, and freezing rain mix possible across central Texas,” according to the NWS. “At this time, precipitation chances remain fairly low and only minor accumulations are expected, mainly on elevated surfaces such as bridge and overpasses, though less-used secondary roads could have some impacts as well.”
The best chances of any accumulations will likely occur on Friday and Saturday night while the coldest air is in place.
The NWS also issued a Wind Advisory on Wednesday which will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Winds are expected to reach between 20 and 30 miles per hour with gusts reaching 35 to 40 miles per hour. In addition to the winds, wind chills in the teens and 20s are expected throughout the day.
Freezing rain and sleet Saturday night has the potential to produce light ice accumulations on exposed surfaces overnight which could impact travel, according to the NWS.
Temperatures are expected to rise on Sunday and alleviate any wintery precipitation concerns in our area.
