FORNEY, Texas — A small aircraft made an emergency crash landing in a southwestern Kaufman County pasture on Monday, June 29, 2015.
The aircraft, a fixed wing single-engine Zodiac 601XL, crash landed in a pasture off Malloy Bridge Road approximately a mile south of Interstate 20.
The plane reportedly had a mechanical malfunction before being forced to land in the hay pasture, Melissa Shaw, the owner of the hay pasture, told inForney.com. “It dropped nose first,” she said and skid approximately 85 feet before coming to a stop — breaking the landing gear.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Captain Fred Klingelberger said the pilot was the only person on board and was uninjured in the landing.
The aircraft is registered to an owner in Montgomery, Texas, according to Federal Aviation Administration records, and was reportedly attempting to make an emergency landing at the Mesquite Metro Airport before the emergency crash landing. The airport is located approximately three miles north of the crash site.
“It’s a beautiful plane,” said Shaw. “All aluminum and millions of hand crafted rivet holes.”
“Thankfully, no one was injured,” she said.
