TERRELL, Texas — A space heater was to blame for a multi-structure fire on Monday afternoon in Terrell, Texas, which resulted in 13 people being displaced.
Firefighters responded to the 1000 block of East Brin Street, at the corner of East State Street, for a house reportedly on fire. Upon their arrival, firefighters reported one home was fully engulfed in flames and spreading to a neighbor’s home.
The fire was caused by a space heater in the initial home, according to Terrell Fire Department Fire Marshal Tom Cooper. Two adults and three children under the age of seven were displaced in the first home and four adults and four children were displaced in the second home.
All of the homes' occupants and pets were able to safely exit the homes without injury. The American Red Cross is assisting the families.
Firefighters from the Terrell Fire Department and the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire with the Forney Fire Department on station standby.
The initial home sustained major fire, smoke, and water damage. The neighbor’s home was damaged on the east side of the home.
