Stage 3 watering restrictions to go back into effect November 1

FORNEY, Texas — Stage 3 watering restrictions will go back into effect on November 1, 2014, and remain in effect until March 31, 2015, for North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) customers which includes Forney and its commercial, residential, and wholesale customers.

FORNEY, Texas — Stage 3 watering restrictions will go back into effect on November 1, 2014, and remain in effect until March 31, 2015, for North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) customers which includes Forney and its commercial, residential, and wholesale customers.

Stage 3 water restrictions limit landscape watering with sprinklers or irrigation systems to once every two weeks and restricts watering in between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The NTMWD is also continuing to ask customers to reduce water usage by 10 percent.

According to the City of Forney, “residents may water trees, shrubs, flowers, gardens, vegetables, and any other landscaping any day up to two hours, by a hand-held hose or low-volume non-spray irrigation, but not between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Residents are also permitted to wash their vehicles at any time and any day with the use of a shut-off spray nozzle.”

Fundraising car washes will need to contact City of Forney Public Works prior to the event at (972) 562-7340.

“Despite recent rains, NTMWD’s primary raw water supplies remain below normal conservation levels,” according to the NTMWD. “Lavon Lake is 12.51 feet below normal and Lake Jim Chapman is also 11.55 feet below the normal conservation level.”

“Our cities and customers did a tremendous job reducing landscape watering during the hot summer months. Now, as we move into cooler fall and winter months, lawns and other landscaping require less water,” said Tom Kula, Executive Director of NTMWD.

“NTMWD recommends customers: turn off irrigation systems and operate on manual mode; utilize weather based watering recommendations such as WaterMyYard.org, Frisco’s WaterWise program, or the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service (AgriLife) ET Network; and water lawns only if needed to supplement natural rainfall,” Kula added.
