KAUFMAN, Texas -- The National Weather Service (NWS) surveyed the damage in Kaufman County last night and determined it was caused by straight line winds estimated between 65 and 80 miles per hour.
KAUFMAN, Texas -- The National Weather Service (NWS) surveyed the damage in Kaufman County last night and determined it was caused by straight line winds estimated between 65 and 80 miles per hour.
"Most of the damage was confined to the central, south central, and southeast portions of Kaufman, and occurred around 8:15-8:20 p.m. Monday evening," stated NWS meteorologist Tom Bradshaw. "Most of the key damage was just east of the US-175/Highway 34 intersection on the SE side of Kaufman."
A number of homes sustained damage from trees and very large limbs which fell on the roofs. At least one car was completely destroyed by a fallen tree.
"Looking at radar imagery, it appears the convective line strengthened quickly over Kaufman County, bowed slightly just west of Kaufman, and produced a very localized downburst event," stated Bradshaw.
Damage was also reported at local retailers, grocers, and an auto dealership.
