KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A fire destroyed a southeastern Kaufman County home early Sunday morning, March 22, 2015.
The fire was reported before 4 a.m. on County Road 4017 which is located east of Kemp, Texas, and north of Mabank, Texas, within the Mabank Volunteer Fire Department’s jurisdiction. The Kemp Volunteer Fire Department and the Gun Barrel City Fire Department responded to provide mutual aid.
First responders were initially concerned about occupants inside the home because there were several vehicles parked outside the residence, according to Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards. “It was finally determined that the occupants were out of town at a wedding and were all accounted for.”
The home, described as a double-wide mobile home, was completely destroyed by the fire. An explosion was also reported before the fire but has not yet been confirmed by any witnesses, stated Richards.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
