FORNEY, Texas — A report of a “suspicious device” in a mailbox on White Porch Avenue prompted a brief closure of the Fox Hollow neighborhood street while police safely determined what was in the mailbox.

The Forney Police Department received a call about a cylindrical device in the mailbox just after 6 p.m. Approximately 15 minutes after the original 911 call, police determined the suspicious device was actually just a battery — described as possibly a D-cell battery. The street was then reopened.

Nearby homeowners were not required to evacuate. The Forney Fire Department staged nearby until the all-clear was given.

Neighbors became concerned when social media reports claimed the device may have been a pipe bomb.
