TERRELL, Texas — A suspicious package discovered Wednesday morning at Terrell Independent School District's Furlough Middle School has been deemed harmless, according to district and police officials.
Around 6 a.m., the Terrell ISD Police Department, City of Terrell Police Department, and the Garland Police Department Bomb Unit responded to the school after receiving a report about the suspicious package which was discovered near the 6th grade wing.
All Furlough Middle School buses, parent drop-offs, and staff were rerouted to the Terrell High School athletic complex until they were given the all-clear from law enforcement.
"A closer inspection of the package by responding officers determined an opened package containing only papers and addressed to a resident in the nearby apartment complex," stated Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom. "There was no potential threat of danger at any time."
"As always, and with recent events in the Austin area, all citizens are asked to remain very alert, active and diligent in their observations," he said. "Report anything suspicious to authorities and do not handle, approach or attempt close examination of any packages that look out of the ordinary or were not expected."
Classes resumed at normal hours and buses continued on their normal routes.
