SUV overturns into U.S. Highway 80 ditch, partially submerged

TERRELL, Texas — An SUV struck a driveway culvert on U.S. Highway 80 on Tuesday afternoon and overturned into a ditch — partially submerging the vehicle.

TERRELL, Texas — An SUV struck a driveway culvert on U.S. Highway 80 on Tuesday afternoon and overturned into a ditch — partially submerging the vehicle.

The wreck was reported at approximately 5:38 p.m. in the 4000 block of westbound U.S. Highway 80 — in between Terrell and Forney.

The SUV was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 80 when it veered off the highway, struck a business’ driveway culvert, went airborne, and overturned into the drainage ditch on the other side of the culvert. The SUV came to a rest on its roof and was partially submerged.

The driver of the SUV was reportedly outside of the vehicle at the time first responders arrived on scene and was later transported to a Dallas-area hospital in unknown condition.

The Terrell Fire Department, Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Terrell Police Department, the Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and CareFlite responded to the crash.

Two other vehicles were involved in a minor fender-bender at the scene of the rollover crash in a separate incident. No injuries were reported in this crash.

The right lane of the highway was initially closed and has since been reopened.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of the crash.
