TERRELL, Texas — A Terrell man was killed in a fiery, four-vehicle crash in south Texas on Monday, May 18, 2015, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Charlie Ramirez.
At approximately 5:16 a.m., on Monday, Ramirez says an 18-wheeler traveling southbound U.S. Highway 281 two miles south of Ben Bolt, Texas, failed to maintain a single lane and struck a guardrail on the east side of the highway. The tractor and trailer then went into a left side skid and rolled over one half time, coming to a rest on its top and stretched across both lanes of the highway.
Another southbound 18-wheeler, driven by 57-year-old Roland Duane Davis, Sr. of Terrell, Texas, struck the trailer and engulfed in flames which resulted in Davis’ death.
Two additional passenger vehicles collided with the 18-wheelers. No other life-threatening injuries were reported, stated Ramirez.
The Ben Bolt Volunteer Fire Department was first to respond to the wreck and received assistance from neighboring departments to extinguish the fire.
Ben Bolt is located in Jim Wells County approximately an hour west of Corpus Christi, Texas.
