TERRELL, Texas โ€” Terrell Police Department responded to an accident on Moore Avenue Friday evening where a horse perished.

Authorities say that the tragic incident started when the owner of an eleven year-old brown Arabian horse was being unloaded on Gardner St. just south of E. Moore Ave.

Police say they believe the horse spooked and the owner could not get control of it. The horse got away from the owner and ran off heading northbound towards E. Moore Ave. where it ran into traffic.

A Jeep Renegade that was travelling westbound on E. Moore Ave. collided with the horse. The horse collapsed nearby in the parking lot of Popโ€™s Chicken at 701 E. Moore Ave. and died as a result of the collision.

โ€œThe occupants inside the vehicle that struck the horse were unharmed,โ€ Corporal Zach Boyd said in a release Friday night.
