TERRELL, Texas — A Terrell woman was struck and killed on Sunday afternoon while filling her car with gas on U.S. Highway 80 in between Forney and Terrell.

TERRELL, Texas — A Terrell woman was struck and killed on Sunday afternoon while filling her car with gas on U.S. Highway 80 in between Forney and Terrell.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 just east of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1392.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Kyle Bradford confirms one person, later identified as 63-year-old Melinda Dardon of Terrell, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Bradford says Dardon ran out of gas and stopped her vehicle in a lane of travel. While attempting to refuel, Dardon was struck by a pickup truck and killed.

The driver of the pickup truck stopped. Bradford says the man is not facing any charges.

U.S. Highway 80 was closed while emergency personnel and accident investigators were on scene. It has since been reopened.

The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, CareFlite, the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash.
