KAUFMAN, Texas — The Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court voted Monday morning to accept a decontamination trailer as a donation from Texas Health Resources.
The approximate 20-foot trailer, valued at $25,000, will serve under the direction of the Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) for use in emergency decontamination or hazardous material situations.
“It would be a tremendous asset to the county,” state OEM Coordinator Steve Howie at the commissioners’ court meeting on Monday. Currently the county relies on decontamination services from agencies in Garland and Dallas.
Howie says the overall upkeep of the trailer is minimal. The lettering on the sides of the trailer would be changed to reflect Kaufman County.
In Kaufman County, Howie says there are a few firefighters trained in decontamination and HAZMAT procedures but would like to see additional members trained.
