KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Emergency personnel responded to three ice-related, rollover accidents within an hour of each other along Kaufman County highways.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Emergency personnel responded to three ice-related, rollover accidents within an hour of each other along Kaufman County highways.
The first accident was reported just before 1 a.m. on the Spur 557 overpass at U.S. Highway 80. A single vehicle overturned on the bridge. The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Terrell Police Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety responded. No injuries were reported in this accident.
The other two accidents were within two hundred yards of each other on westbound Interstate-20 near mile marker 495, which is in between the Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 and FM 148 exits.
In one of the I-20 accidents, a vehicle lost control on a bridge, struck a guardrail, and overturned over the guardrail, off the bridge, and down an embankment. The vehicle came to a rest on its roof just before overturning into Big Brushy Creek. The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with what were described as minor injuries.
HAZMAT was requested for a fuel spill cleanup due to fuel spilling into the creek.
In the second accident, a driver lost control just after crossing over a bridge, spun down an embankment, overturned, and came to a rest on the passenger side of the vehicle — becoming entrapped inside the vehicle. No injuries were reported in this accident.
The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Forney Fire Department, Talty Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the two I-20 accidents. The Forney Fire Department was disregarded before their arrival.
I-20 westbound at FM 148 will be closed while wreckers work at both accident scenes.
A minor accidents involving a vehicle which left the roadway on U.S. Highway 175 near Seagoville, Texas, was also reported near the same time as the other accidents. No injuries were reported in this accident.
Texas Department of Transportation sand trucks were requested to sand the bridges in the area of the accidents.
