KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, has issued a Tornado Watch, Flash Flood Watch, and Flood Warning for portions of Kaufman County on Monday.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, has issued a Tornado Watch, Flash Flood Watch, and Flood Warning for portions of Kaufman County on Monday.
Tornado Watch
The Tornado Watch was issued at 10:50 a.m. and will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Monday. Severe storms are expected to reach Kaufman County early Monday afternoon.
Flood Warning
The Flood Warning was issued at 9:32 a.m. after forecasted flooding upgraded from minor to moderate severity on the Trinity River near Rosser, Texas, in southeastern Kaufman County. The Flood Warning will affect the Roseer area as well as portions of Ellis County.
The Flood Warning is in effect until further notice of the warning is canceled.
At 8:30 a.m. Monday, the stage of the river in the Rosser area was 35.04 feet. Flood stage is 31 feet.
“Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast,” according to the NWS which forecast the river will continue rising to a crest near 38 feet by Tuesday evening when widespread flooding is possible on farm and ranch lands near the river.
The Flash Flood Watch, issued earlier this morning, remains in effect until this evening. Average rainfall of one to three inches is expected over parts of North Texas.
The NWS warns drivers not to drive through standing of flowing water on area roadways. “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Severe Thunderstorm Warning
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Kaufman County at 3:44 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. "Severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Sunnyvale to near Combine, moving east at 35 miles per hour," stated the NWS.
The hazards with these storms include 60 mile per hour gusts of wind and nickel size hail.
