FORNEY, Texas – The much-anticipated traffic signal at the intersection of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 and Helms Trail has been installed.
FM 1641 will now have protected left turn signals to turn onto Helms Trail. The signal is expected to be fully operational on Thursday, September 11, 2014. Until then, the signal will be flashing orange for FM 1641 traffic and flashing red for Helms Trail traffic.
An area of concern for the intersection was a slight s-curve on FM 1641 as you approach the intersection from the east. The new wire-hung signal is visible as you enter the curve and should alleviate some of the major accidents which have occurred at the intersection over the years as population continued to grow in the area.
Development is expected to ramp up in the next several years with Gateway Boulevard planned to intersect FM 1641 west of Helms Trail. Gateway Boulevard will make a loop around the east side of Forney from FM 548. More than 2,000 acres, north and south of U.S. Highway 80, are expected to be developed with residential, retail, and commercial.
