TERRELL, Texas — Two people were critically injured and flown to Dallas-area hospitals in a four-vehicle crash on State Highway (SH) 205 in Terrell on Friday night.

The crash was reported at 7:57 p.m. on SH 205 just south of Colquitt Road, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom. The crash involves four vehicles and at least eight people — two who were critically injured.

Advanced Crash Investigators and Criminal Investigation Division personnel from the Terrell Police Department responded to the scene to investigate the crash.

The Texas Department of Transportation was dispatched to close SH 205 from Colquitt Road to the Walmart parking lot entrance on SH 205. The closure is expected to last overnight into Saturday morning, according to Sansom.

According to witness accounts, a vehicle sideswiped another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The vehicle continued on and struck another vehicle head on. The fourth vehicle lost control attempting to avoid the crash and overturned.

The two critically injured were transported by CareFlite medical helicopters to Parkland Memorial Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Firefighters from the Terrell Fire Department and the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department had to extricate the two critically injured individuals from their separate vehicles.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
