TERRELL, Texas — Two people were injured attempting to extinguish a fire in their home on Wednesday morning, February 4, 2015.
The Terrell Fire Department received a 911 call about the fire, located in the 200 block of Meadowcrest Drive, at 8:48 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon their arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the single-story brick home.
The fire was knocked down at approximately 9:12 a.m. but not after damaging eastern portions of the home and much of the attic.
In total, four people were displaced by the fire — a mother, father, and their two kids who had only lived in the home for approximately two months. The mother and father were treated and released at the scene for burns to their hands and feet and smoke inhalation which were sustained while they attempting to extinguish the fire. The families pets were uninjured.
The fire originated at an electrical outlet in the master bedroom closet, according to Terrell Fire Department Fire Marshal Tom Cooper. The home’s alarm system was plugged into the outlet at the time of the fire.
The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department and the Forney Fire Department were dispatched for mutual aid. An East Texas Medical Center ambulance and the American Red Cross were also dispatched.
