MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Department is investigating a major, three-vehicle crash on Interstate-20 near the Dallas-Kaufman County line — involving two 18-wheelers.
The crash was reported just before 9 p.m. on westbound I-20 just west of Farm-to-Market (FM) 740.
Police say a passenger vehicle, traveling eastbound, crossed over the highway median and struck an 18-wheeler head-on forcing it into a second 18-wheeler. The passenger vehicle remained in the left lane where two individuals, a man and woman, were extricated and transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, in serious condition, according to Mesquite police. The two 18-wheelers veered off the right shoulder and the drivers were uninjured.
The Texas Department of Transportation is expected to close all westbound lanes at the FM 740 exit and divert traffic to U.S. Highway 80.
