KAUFMAN, Texas — Two people were tragically killed overnight after their vehicle was swept off a flooded roadway in Kaufman County.
The news comes after emergency officials reported approximately 10 inches of rainfall overnight with accumulations in some areas as deep as 10 feet.
The two deaths occurred in the area of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1390 and FM 148 in the Warsaw community between Crandall and Scurry. Police have not released the victims' names.
Overnight, officials also reported approximately 26 evacuations in the Kaufman, College Mound, and Warsaw areas.
Overnight and early morning road closures occurred on CR 4079, CR 4083, CR 4090, the U.S. Highway 175 service road near Houston Street, westbound U.S. Highway 175 under FM 1388, the 8300 block of South FM 148, the areas of SH 34/U.S. Highway 175/and FM 1836, FM 1390 at CR 4096, the 1300 block of Curtis Lane, and Love Street.
Those road closures are expected to reopen as flood waters recede.
Texas Task Force 1 deployed three boat crews along with other state resources to the Kaufman County area. The American Red Cross also deployed to assist displaced residents.
