HEATH, Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation has broke ground on Phase II of the Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 widening project through Heath — a project that will surely impact Forney-to-Rockwall commuters.

The $12.9 million project will widen Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 from the four-way intersection of Hubbard Drive/FM 740/FM 1140 at the center of Heath, passed Amy Parks Elementary School and City Hall, through the four-way intersection of FM 740/FM 549/FM 550, and north to the intersection of FM 1140/FM 740 near the new CVS Pharmacy — approximately 1.8 miles.

The road will be expanded to a four-lane divided roadway in the northern section of the project and a four-lane undivided roadway in front of Amy Parks Elementary and City Hall.

The project, which began design in mid-2010, will include grading, drainage, and structures was awarded to the Ed Bell Construction Company.

Construction crews will work a five-day work week and the project is expected to be substantially complete in May of 2017.
