KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A south eastern Kaufman County home was destroyed in a fire on Sunday, November 23, 2014.
At approximately 1:55 p.m., the Kemp Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the fire in the 20,000 block of Laredo Lane — which is south of Kemp, Texas, off of County Road 4044. The Mabank Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid.
Upon arrival, the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within a short time after arrival but the home was completely destroyed. The southern portion of the structure, which is where the kitchen was located, collapsed.
The fire was likely caused by an unattended roast in the oven, according to Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards.
The homeowner was able to safely exit the home with his dog. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross is assisting the man and his family.
