FORNEY, Texas – An unhitched 18-wheeler pup trailer overturned down an embankment on U.S. Highway 80 early Thursday morning, July 31, 2014.
The stationary FedEx pup trailer overturned at approximately 1:50 a.m. on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 east of Farm-to-Market (FM) 460 down an embankment separating the highway and the south service road.
The driver was reportedly hauling two pup trailers and began having maintenance issues with the rear trailer before unhitching it on the highway. In between dropping the front trailer and returning to the rear trailer on the highway, the trailer overturned.
The first heavy-duty wrecker arrived on scene at approximately 2:45 a.m. and immediately requested a second heavy-duty wrecker due to the location of the trailer. Recovery efforts did not begin until the second wrecker, coming from Canton, Texas, arrived on scene at approximately 3:24 a.m.
Emergency responders closed the right lane of U.S. Highway 80 during the recovery efforts. No injuries were reported. The trailer was removed from the embankment and the roadway was re-opened at 4:22 a.m.
