FORNEY, Texas — A fatal accident on Wednesday morning, November 19, 2014, claimed the life of a Forney area woman — less than a mile from her home.
Just before 2 a.m., a passerby called 911 about the accident located on Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 just south of University Road, north of Forney, Texas.
At this time, investigators believe the woman was traveling northbound on FM 548, crossed over into the southbound lanes, left the roadway, struck a metal-grid pasture fence, and overturned several times. Investigators stated she approached a curve in the road and, instead of turning with the curve, continued straight until she struck the fence. The accident remains under investigation.
A Kaufman County justice of the peace pronounced the woman deceased at the scene. The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the woman as 18-year-old Amy Mendoza of Forney, Texas.
FM 548 reopened just before 5 a.m.
The Forney Fire Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and an East Texas Medical Center ambulance responded to the accident.
