FORNEY, Texas —Police say alcohol may have played a role in a fatal rollover crash on Saturday morning that killed a Forney man, according to police.
At approximately 7:20 a.m., the College Mound Volunteer Fire Department (VFD), CareFlite EMS, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the crash at the intersection of Farm-to-Market (FM) 429 and State Highway 243 in eastern Kaufman County, according to College Mound VFD Safety Officer Terry Van Sickle.
Firefighters arrived to a sedan on its side in a field south of the intersection. “At this point, it appears the car was southbound on FM 429, crossed State Highway 243, ran through the fence, and landed on its side in the field,” stated Van Sickle.
Officials believe the vehicle had been in the field for several hours before ranch hands discovered the vehicle shortly after sunrise.
The deceased man was identified by police as 33-year-old James Bedford of Forney, Texas. Alcohol may have play a factor in the crash, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Kyle Bradford.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.
